Toyota RAV4 vs Nissan Rogue

2020 Toyota RAV4

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 and the 2020 Nissan Rogue offer a comfortable, safe, and powerful ride, but which vehicle has more to offer Indianapolis, IN, motorists? To answer that question for Avon and Plainfield, IN, drivers, Andy Mohr Toyota did a side-by-side comparison of various factors.

In every instance, we found just one of these crossovers consistently came out ahead of its competitor.

2020 Toyota RAV4 vs Nissan Rogue: Power and Towing

Toyota RAV4 Towing Both the 2020 Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue are stylish enough for a night out, but when it comes time to play, they play hard. With high-powered engines offered in both of these SUVs, you can expect some truly exhilarating performance from the moment you hit that gas pedal.

The Rogue comes standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that generates 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. However, the RAV4 generates even more power with its standard 2.5L Dynamic Force 4-cylinder engine that produces up to 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.

When you hit the road for a weekend adventure, both SUVs have an impressive towing capacity. The Rogue can tow a maximum of 1,102 pounds when properly equipped. The RAV4 can tow a bit more, with a standard towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

However, with the RAV4 Adventure trim, that towing capacity increases to a maximum of 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. Plus, most RAV4 trim levels come with Trailer-Sway Control for improved handling when towing.

This isn’t a safety feature or a towing capacity you’ll find on the Nissan Rogue. So, if you want to buy the big boat for your trips up to Lake Michigan, the RAV4 has more of the options you need.

Toyota RAV4 vs Nissan Rogue: Fuel-Efficient Design

In order to keep you driving for days, these two SUVs feature some smart features to save on fuel.

Overall, you can expect the Nissan Rogue base trim to earn an EPA-estimated 26 city MPG and 33 highway MPG. Meanwhile, the Toyota RAV4 has an EPA-estimated 27 city MPG and 35 highway MPG in its base trim level.1

You may be asking yourself, “How exactly does the Toyota RAV4 save so much fuel?” Well, one of the ways is through the smart design of the Dynamic Force engine. This powertrain is capable of adjusting power to save fuel under certain conditions. The result is seamless performance that actively works to maintain your fuel economy.

Toyota RAV4 vs Nissan Rogue: Off-Road Capability

Toyota RAV4 Off-RoadIt’s undeniable that the Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Rogue are both designed with active lifestyles in mind. These vehicles can be equipped with available all-wheel drive to help you comfortably drive over mud and gravel without losing traction. If you have to navigate a trail, these vehicles certainly won’t be slowed down.

The Toyota RAV4 is loaded with all sorts of extra off-road-friendly features to help you remain in control when going off the beaten path. This SUV comes fully prepared for anything you throw at it with a Multi-terrain Select system. You can enhance your drivetrain with modes for Mud & Sand, Rock & Dirt, Snow, and Normal.

You’ll feel even more in control when you’re driving downhill using the available Downhill Assist Control. Turn this feature on, and your SUV will apply pressure to the brakes while you’re moving down a hill. When using this, you won’t speed up too quickly while you’re navigating a steep incline.

Safety Technology

Whether you’re commuting to the office or hitting the trails, both the RAV4 and Rogue offer features that’ll help get you there safely. These SUVs come with all sorts of standard safety features, so you can count on your vehicle to keep you secure in all sorts of situations.

Both vehicles feature standard Automatic Emergency Braking, which is a huge help when you’re in traffic. If your attention is drawn away from the road, this system will automatically brake for you if a collision seems imminent. You’ll feel great knowing that both of these vehicles are actively looking out for you.

What’s special about the RAV4, though, is that it comes standard with a Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 suite. The Toyota RAV4’s safety features include Road Sign Assist, which monitors the road for important road signs. Your SUV will then record notable signs on your Multi-Information Display for easy reference.

RAV4 Interior vs Rogue Interior

2020 Toyota RAV4 Interior You’re going to spend a lot of time inside the cabin of your vehicle; therefore, you’ll want to be equipped with all the latest interior amenities.

The Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Rogue come fully equipped with all the latest technology. With comfortable seats and excellent climate control, you can settle in for a long drive with these SUVs.

These vehicles go pretty far with their technology, thanks to their available premium audio systems. The Nissan Rogue is sure to impress with its available 9-speaker Bose® Premium Audio System. However, the Toyota RAV4 tops the Rogue in speaker count with its available 11-speaker JBL® Premium Audio System.

The Toyota RAV4’s interior takes comfort and convenience even further with its available Qi-compatible wireless smartphone and device charging pad. With a built-in pad that wirelessly charges your phone, you can always keep your phone topped off.

Unfortunately, the Nissan Rogue doesn’t have a feature similar to this, leaving you with less overall convenience.
