Detail and Clean Your Vehicle
Making sure that your car is clean is one of the most important things you can do to for boosting the trade-in value. Give the exterior a nice and thorough wash and have the interior detailed.
The service center at your local dealership can help you detail your vehicle’s cabin to remove any stains from coffee spills, crumbs from the kids’ snacks, or smells from the ride home after a rainy hike with Fido.
Remove Any Customizations
When you trade in your vehicle, the dealership is going to want to see that it’s as close to factory specifications as possible. While it can be nice to accessorize in a way that makes your car feel uniquely your own, you’ll want to make sure that any customizations are temporary and easy to remove.
Use Genuine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Parts
As mentioned before, keeping your car built to factory specifications can do a lot to improve its trade-in value. If you need any repairs for your vehicle at any time, make sure to request genuine original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts.
These are the parts made for your vehicle by the manufacturer, so they’re the most compatible with your car’s factory specs. We have a large inventory of OEM parts at our service center, which we make sure to use for all of our repairs. This includes factory-approved paints for covering up any minor dents or dings.
Schedule Routine Maintenance When It’s Due
When valuing your trade-in, most dealerships will look at your vehicle’s maintenance records. These are tracked by companies, like CARFAX®, and listed in the vehicle history report. Having a well-maintained vehicle can help to boost the trade-in value.
Review your car’s owner’s manual to find its specific maintenance schedule and follow it. You can also ask the factory-trained and -certified technicians at our dealership for their recommendations.
At a minimum, you should be visiting the shop annually for an oil change. Ideally, you should have your car’s oil changed twice per year or every 7,500 miles to 10,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Keep Your Mileage Low
The average driver travels around 15,000 miles to 20,000 miles per year. Keeping your mileage around this number can help in maximizing the trade-in value of your vehicle.
Typically, if you travel more miles than average per year, then it’s expected that your vehicle will experience more wear and tear every year—this can affect how it’s valued as a trade-in. For this reason, it can be beneficial to avoid driving more than you absolutely have to.
