The History of Holliday Park
During the 1916 centennial celebration of Indiana’s statehood, John and Evaline Holliday decided to donate their country estate to the City of Indianapolis. This generous contribution was the ideal spot for both recreation and nature studies, making it a hot spot for local residents and visitors alike.
No matter what the season, this park has something to offer its visitors, and we know you’re going to want to come back weekend after weekend.
A Nature Oasis
After having a bite to eat at Harry & Izzy’s and strolling around Circle Centre Mall, you may be longing for some fresh air and the peaceful sounds of nature. If so, head on over to Holliday Park. Be sure to bring your sneakers since you’ll want to cruise around their 3.5 miles of lush trails.
This park boats over 400 species of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers, so you’ll love getting lost in its beauty and taking some Instagram-worthy photos. Be sure to stroll along the White River and visit the beech-maple forest. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out.
It’s not uncommon to see a deer, fox, beaver, rabbit, or squirrel cross your path as well, so keep an eye out!
Host an Event
After visiting Holliday Park, you’re going to want to host all your major events there. From family reunions to weddings, they have you covered. There are three venues you’ll want to scope out:
- Nature Center Rooms: Choose from a quaint library for an intimate gathering to the roomy auditorium to suit your corporate retreat.
- Ruins: Want a stunning backdrop in your wedding photos? Taking them inside this semi-circle of columns is sure to have people taking for years.
- Pavilion: Kids’ birthday parties at the covered, open-air Pavilion are sure to please! Play tag in the sun and then cool down in the shade at one of the picnic tables.
