Clean Your Vehicle Inside and Out

The first item on our lease trade-in checklist is to clean your vehicle. Ideally, you should return your vehicle to the dealership in excellent condition. You can do this by giving your car a thorough wash to clean off any dirt or road salt on the outside.

You should also have your vehicle detailed, so that the cabin is clean and ready for whoever is going to drive the car next. Retrieve any personal items that you may have stored in the trunk, pockets, or other compartments and remove any customizations or accessories.

Complete Any Outstanding Maintenance

In many cases, the terms of your lease require you to keep your vehicle up to date on all of its routine maintenance needs. If you’re due or overdue for any routine services, make sure to get those taken care of at a factory-certified service center. You’ll most likely need to complete your annual oil change and maybe even a tire rotation.

Decide What You Want to Do after Trading in Your Lease

Now that your lease is coming to an end, it’s time to decide what you’ll do next. Typically, you have three options at the end of your lease:

1. Return the vehicle.
2. Lease another vehicle.
3. Purchase your lease.
