PERFORMANCE
Toyota Corolla

Sedans offer varying performance. Some models provide sport-tuned thrills, while others allow interruption-free miles. If you’re interested in a little bit of both worlds, you’ll love the Corolla and the Jetta. They’re as exciting as they are efficient. Which one will you prefer?

Sting Like a Bee

When we popped under the hood of the Toyota and the Volkswagen, we found the Corolla is available with two engines, while the Jetta only offers one. Let’s see how their base engines compare!

  • The Corolla equips a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that generates 169 horsepower.
  • The Jetta equips a 1.5-liter turbo engine that produces 158 horsepower.

Although the difference is slight, the extra boost of power in the Corolla improves acceleration, making you feel light as a butterfly when you hit the gas.

Float Like a Butterfly

When comparing their standard engines, the Toyota and the VW offer similar gas mileage. However, if you want to save money, time, and gas, the Corolla is the model for you since it’s available in several hybrid trims!

It propels you forward with the help of a hybrid powertrain that generates 138 horsepower. Plus, it achieves an EPA-estimated 53 city/46 highway MPG.* Think of all the places you can go on a single tank of gas!

Unfortunately, the VW Jetta is unavailable as a hybrid, which would let you explore for miles without stopping at a gas pump.

TECHNOLOGY
Toyota Corolla

It’s the weekend. You’re sitting at the helm of the Corolla or the Jetta with nowhere to go. You decide a joyride is in order. You roll down the windows to let in the breeze. You adjust your seat to an optimized position. All that’s left to do is queue up your driving playlist and hit the gas. Which sedan makes it easier to get—and stay—connected?

Wire-free Connectivity

In either sedan, you’ll have an impressive infotainment setup and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. These integrations make phone pairing easy; however, it takes different steps in each model.

In the Jetta, these integrations pop up via App-Connect®, which requires a cord that plugs into a USB port. In the Corolla, these integrations are wireless, which creates a cordless experience and a clutter-free cockpit. Plus, it makes it easier for your rear-seat passengers to pair with the infotainment suite as well. Wireless functionality is available on higher Jetta trims.

Touchscreen Triumphs

When your wanderlust takes you beyond your typical routes, you can use Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™ to pull up directions that lead you home. You may be able to see your navigation better in the Corolla, though, thanks to its standard 8-inch multimedia touchscreen! While this screen size is available on higher Jetta trims, there’s only a 6.5-inch touchscreen on its base model.

SAFETY
Toyota Corolla

Your safety is a top priority. With unpredictable roads in your future, you’re going to need a vehicle that uplifts your confidence and your peace of mind. The Corolla and the Jetta are equipped with standard safety suites that protect you at every curve. Which offers more standard features, though?

Protect Your Peace

Whether you’re running errands or exploring new locales, Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 and IQ.DRIVE will protect you. Although they have different names, they share several driver-assistance aids in common, including:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Proactive Driving Assist

The only difference is that all these features are standard on the Corolla. The same can’t be said about the Jetta.

Road Sign Warrior

What’s the speed limit on this road? Is this a one-way street? Was that a stop sign back there? New roads come with new-to-you road signage. With the Corolla’s standard Road Sign Assist feature, you’ll never miss a piece of important road information.

This feature uses an intelligent camera that keeps track of speed limit, stop, Do Not Enter, yield, and other warning signs. Their corresponding icon will pop up in your multi-information display, allowing you to never be taken off guard.

A similar feature is unavailable on the VW Jetta.
